California energy options

California has different paths for electricity and natural gas. Check the provider named on your bill before comparing alternatives.

Electricity

CCA or limited Direct Access

In participating communities, a Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) can supply electricity while the utility delivers it. Customers can opt out of CCA service. Direct Access is a separate program for nonresidential customers and is subject to a load cap and a utility waiting-list process. [1]

Before you decide: Compare the CCA and utility bill estimates, including applicable charges such as the Power Charge Indifference Adjustment. A generation-only price does not show the full bill.

Natural gas

Core Transport Agent options

A Core Transport Agent (CTA) can provide gas supply while the utility retains delivery. The CPUC does not set CTA prices. Review the supply price, monthly fees, term and cancellation provisions against your utility service. [2] [3]

Before you decide: The CPUC comparison tables were labeled June 2026 when reviewed. Use them as a starting point, then confirm the current written offer directly with the CTA.

Check the total price and contract terms before accepting an offer. For service or billing questions, find the right contact.
