Iowa energy options
Iowa customers are served by a mix of investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities and electric cooperatives. The applicable regulator and tariff depend on the provider.
Electricity
Utility and service-area guidance
The Iowa Utilities Commission regulates investor-owned electric utilities and has more limited authority over municipal utilities and cooperatives. Use the provider on your bill and its approved tariff when evaluating costs. [1] [2]
Before you decide: The IUC tariff search accepts utility names and industry types. Contact the IUC if a utility website's tariff appears to differ from the approved filing.
Natural gas
Check the utility's gas tariff
The IUC identifies regulated investor-owned gas utilities and publishes tariff resources. A listing in a utility directory does not establish that a household may select any gas marketer. [1] [2]
Before you decide: Ask your provider whether your account qualifies for a separate gas supply arrangement and which delivery, balancing or other charges would remain.
